A multi-year initiative to strengthen AI literacy education across Dubai’s private schools was launched at the World Governments Summit 2026. The initiative is a collaboration between DP World Foundation, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education (RAISE).

Débora Garofalo, the Global Teacher Prize Ambassador from Brazil, won the first-ever Global Teacher Influencer of the Year at a ceremony in Dubai. The first ever award of its kind was launched by the Varkey Foundation to recognise an exceptional teacher who uses social media to extend learning beyond the classroom and inspire positive change at scale.

The sixth edition of the Voices of Future Generations anthology, which features stories written entirely by children on themes of sustainability and environment responsibility, was launched during the just concluded Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. Importantly, the 2026 edition also recognised several UAE school teachers playing a pivotal role in nurturing the young writers behind these stories by honouring them with the Teacher Champion Award.

Schools in Dubai will finish earlier on Fridays starting January 9, 2026, following a nationwide adjustment to Friday prayer schedules, according to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

In a statement, the KHDA said the change aligns with the new Friday prayer time of 12.45pm and comes after consultations with educational institutions across the emirate.
