The UAE has decided to temporarily shift all schools, universities and higher education institutions to remote learning from May 5 till May 8, 2026.
The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) today announced the temporary transition to remote learning across all higher education institutions in the country, effective from Tuesday, May 5, through Friday, May 8. The UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) also separately announced the implementation of distance learning during the same time period for students, teachers, and administrative staff across nurseries and all public and private schools nationwide.
In a media release, MoHESR stated that this measure is part of regulatory actions aimed at ensuring the continuity of the educational process with efficiency and flexibility.
Priority academic programmes that require clinical training, laboratory use, direct practical or field-based application, or in-person examinations are exempt. Such programmes will continue with face-to-face instruction, as determined by the Ministry.
The UAE Ministry of Education (MoE), in a media release, said the shift to remote learning across schools and nurseries nationwide until Friday is being undertaken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the educational community. The situation will be reviewed on Friday, 8 May 2026, and the period may be extended if necessary.
