The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has cancelled the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) board examinations across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amidst the ongoing regional tensions.
A circular issued by the council stated that “after reviewing the situation CISECE has decided to cancel the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) examinations” that had been deferred earlier.
The statement added that the decision was taken after reviewing the situation in consultation with the CEO of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai, and the Consulate General of India, Dubai. The step was thought necessary to ensure the safety of students, examination staff and other stakeholders.
CISCE chief executive and secretary Dr. Joseph Emmanuel was quoted as saying in the Indian Express that the Class 10 and Class 12 results would be determined through an alternative assessment method, the details of which would be announced later. Dr.Emmanuel added that Class 10 and Class 12 results of the students affected by the cancellation of the 2026 board exams will be declared along with the results for Indian students.
According to Dr.Emmanuel, the results may be processed on the basis of both the internal and practical examinations conducted by the schools. The schools and the students will be informed of this process, he said.
The CISCE chief executive added that students who may not be satisfied with the marks awarded under the alternative assessment system “will have the option to appear for the improvement examinations once results are announced and the situation is conducive to conduct exams”.
All students are advised to stay in touch with their schools for updates regarding the exams and follow official announcements carefully.
The CISCE’s decision to cancel the Class 10 and Class 12 exams are in light of missile and drone attacks from Iran faced by several Gulf countries as a result of the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
